My name is Zuri, and I am the creator and owner of Studio Maven.

ma•ven - noun

One who is knowledgeable or understanding of a subject, experienced, expert or teacher

The love that I have for this industry has always been bigger than me. I remember Saturday mornings in the salon with my Mom and two sisters, the smell of styling products in the air, hearing the blow dryers that muffled the music while everything moved so fast paced. The salon environment was exciting and intriguing. It was then for the first time in my young life that I truly felt connected to something.

My first salon job I started at 15 years old.

I was hired as an assistant for a local salon owner and worked beside her for 4 years.

She taught me all of the fundamentals. How to properly shampoo, wet set, blow dry, and heat style. She taught me about relaxers and demi permanent colors, how to hustle and juggle between clients. Within those years she took me to my first big hair show in Atlanta where I witnessed out of this world creativity, talent and energy. The other avenues of the industry, platform work.. and I wanted in!

I then went off to school at The Color Lab Academy of Hair a Vidal Sassoon program.

It was not until I was introduced to color theory that I knew what I was going to specialize in.

I fell in love with learning about the history of hair coloring, formulating tones and what chemical reactions occur during the process. I told myself that one day I was going to be a Master.

At the beginning stages of my career I worked in two very different salon settings and learned so much from them both. I set goals, continued my education, and worked hard to build a book filled with clientele who were not just seeking a color service, but my services specifically.

Through out the recent years I have worked alongside celebrity artist Beppe De’alia and the L’Oréal team for New York Fashion Week, partnered with the amazing Seven Hair Care where I took steps to become an educator and was given the opportunity to teach my first live segment on stage in Las Vegas at the Cesar’s Palace. Most recently, I contracted with the Optavia team as their only hairstylist for the yearly Convention held at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

I am grateful for all of my experiences through out my career. They have all shaped me into the woman and professional that I am today. A mother, leader, hustler, an inspirational, a hair MAVEN. Thankful for the connections that I’ve made, for my mentors that have walked with me on my journey, and to my clients that have supported and trusted in me. I look forward to creating and growing with you!

Zuri
